FAQ

Strauss Water technology & specifications

  • Is the water in the T6 really boiling?

The water reaches boiling point (similar to the operation of an electric kettle) The water is held at 90c , so when the hot button is pressed you get perfect water for coffee, by pressing the extra hot button the water is boosted to boiling point, perfect for tea. So you no longer need your kettle.

  • What are the dimensions of the T6?

Dimensions: height 35 cm, depth 35 cm, width 29 cm

  • Is it safe to let babies up to 12 months drink from the appliance?

The T6 reaches boiling point so can replace the kettle for baby drink preparation. The cold water from the T6 has been filtered and purified so it is advised you check with the local health authority.

  • Does the T6 filter chlorine from the water?

The T6 includes a filter that contains active charcoal; the charcoal absorbs the chlorine and the aftertastes. In addition the filter is equipped with a micron mesh that filters sand, rust and other particles.

  • Does the T6 maintain the fluoride in the water?

The fluoridation process varies by local water authority. The T6 appliance does not change the mineral composition of the water, and thus does not extract the fluoride. For further questions regarding the fluoride, please refer to your local water authority.

  • What material is the hot water tank made of?

The T6 hot water tank is manufactured from a material called Polypropylene, this material DOES NOT secrete chemical materials into the water, including Bisphenol A.

  • Does the T6 treat heavy metals?

The T6 treats water that is suitable for drinking and that complies with the strict requirements of the relevant water authority. The T6 does not remove heavy metals.

  • What is an ultra violet lamp and what is its purpose?

The UV lamp (Ultra Violet) exterminates germs found in water. The UV light operates on a specific wave length, the wave length has an influence on all living organisms, and the shorter the wave is, the more severe the impact. The bulb of the T6 has a beam strength which does not allow the germs to multiply. The result is germ free water. The advantage of this method is the efficiency and speed of the germ extermination. Chlorine is present in water to protect it and once this has been removed, as our filters do, the water is open to contamination, the UV lamp protects the water and ensures no contamination can take place.

T6 installation

  • Can I install the device inside a cabinet or a recess?

Like all other electrical appliances, it is necessary to leave a 10 cm gap between the back of the appliance and the wall, to allow adequate air circulation. If the appliance is installed inside a recess (built in) please make sure that the size of the recess is at least as follows: Height 38 cm, depth 45 cm.

  • How is the T6 installed?

The T6 is installed by one of our own WRAS and EDWCA engineers. It is connected to your mains supply via a 6mm flexi tube that is fed into your mains supply, normally under the sink. The tube is then brought under the cupboards and connected to the T6 at the back of the unit. The tube gets to the back via a small 8mm hole in the work surface. We install the units using our own engineers as we like to ensure the T6 is installed to the mains supply correctly and this also enables us to take you through the machine and personalise the settings to your requirements. This also ensures the warranty of the appliance and protects you in the unlikely event that your appliance may have a fault. The installation does not require extra space or any preliminary preparations.

Installation requirements: within 6ft of a electrical socket and within 60ft of the mains water supply.

  • Can you install if I have a granite work surface?

Yes. Our engineers have had specialist training to drill through granite, marble and corian work surfaces and have all the right equipment.

Water purification and filtration questions

  • What is the difference between mineral water and T6 water?

The water dispensed by the T6 is mains tap water from water sources that are under strict filtration and purification processes and reach the customer safe to drink, and include all the natural minerals and chlorine. The T6 then triple-purifies this water absorbing the chlorine and other impurities but leaves the natural minerals.

Mineral water is water pumped directly from water sources, without any filtration and purification then bottled in plastic bottles and transported via various hubs to the retailer.

  • What is the real health significance of mineral water compared to tap water?

All drinking water, as well as tap water and water that is referred to as "mineral water" contain the same minerals, varying in composition and concentration, dependent on the environment from which they come from. Tap water has chlorine added to protect it on its route to your tap and this can cause taste and odour concerns. The T6 triple purification process absorbs the chlorine from the water.

  • Is the UV lamp safe and healthy to use?

The UV technology used in the T6 is the most advanced and leading technology in the country and worldwide.

The UV illumination does not alter the water's composition but exterminates bacteria present in the water without causing any taste or odour problems. After chlorine has been removed from the water it could have bacteria growth, the UV lamp ensures this does not happen.

This technology is safe to use and all the company's appliances are tested and comply with strict safety standards. The UV system is placed in a closed container and there is no danger of exposure.

  • What do the filtration and purification systems of the T6 treat?

The filter eliminates impurities, such as rust and dirt and absorbs odours and aftertastes, thus eliminating more than 90% of the chlorine found in drinking water. The water in the T6 undergoes a three stage filtration and purification process:

    1. Initially the water passes through a sediment filter to remove large particles such as rust, sand & little stones.
    2. Then the water is passed through a two stage patented filtration process. Active charcoal filtration– physical filtration: physically stopping particles, such as rust and gravel to 0.6 micron.
    3. Chemical filtration: filtration using active charcoal to improve the taste and quality of the water, absorbing chlorine and filtering organic substances which can leave odour and aftertastes.
    4. Purification using a UV lamp – the purpose of this purification process is germ extermination, using the UV lamp (Ultra Violet), which exterminates the contaminating germs. The UV lamp operates on a specific wave length, the wave length has an influence on all living organisms, the shorter the wave is, the more severe the impact. The bulb of the T6 appliance has a beam strength which does not allow the germs to multiply. The result is germ free water.
  • What is an activated charcoal filter?

The elimination of chlorine and other organic substances are efficiently executed by the active charcoal. The accurate combination of different sized particles will enable absorption of a wide range of contaminators. This process is significant for water purification systems and water filtration systems, and an important component of the T6.

  • Does the T6 treat limescale?

Lime scale is a crystallization of natural minerals (Calcium and Magnesium), which can be found in water. During the process of boiling water they crystallize and form into a visible substance. The Calcium and Magnesium are healthy and essential minerals for the human body. It has been scientifically proven that water enriched with Calcium and Magnesium is good for your health. The T6 does not filter these or other essential minerals.

When you join our WaterClub, we will send you a descaler capsule every 6 months which will ensure optimum performance of the T6.

  • Why is it important to replace the filter and the UV bulb on time?

From the moment the filter is installed in the T6 germs accumulate on the filter. The replacement of the filter on time will ensure ongoing water quality. Furthermore, the charcoal loses its ability to filter properly after a period of 6 months.

The UV lamp will have a number of activations.. After a while there will be a gradual decrease of the power. As its power is diminished it does not provide, optimal extermination of the germs.

  • Why should I join the WaterClub?

Your T6 needs regular maintenance to keep producing the best tasting, finest purity water. As with any filtration system, the filters need changing every 6 months, and as with any kettle, the T6 should be de-scaled every 6 months. The UV lamp which purifies the water giving the superior taste has to be changed every year.

  • Which standards comply with the T6 and Strauss Water?

T6 applies to the strictest standards, to ensure that you not only enjoy the best quality drinking water, but also the best products and customer service:

    1. Qualification according to ISO 9002 for production quality system management, sales, installation and service - meaning the company's quality system was tested and certified by the Israel Standards Institute and undergoes periodic reviews once every six months.
    2. WRAS standard – the British standard for material to be used with drinking water. All the materials that come in contact with the water are approved by this organization, and the whole system is tested as a complex in order to ensure that there are no chemical reactions between the different materials. The testing includes the composition of the different materials, and to ensure that they do not secrete any substances to the water and that they do not leave any aftertastes (present only in bars).
    3. CE standard – the European safety standard. A complete set of electrical and stability testing in order to ensure safety.
    4. ROHS standard - compliance with the European Community guidelines which ensure that the product (including its components) does not use environmentally hazardous substances.
  • Does the T6 use a lot of energy?

The T6's energy saving function ensures the T6 is very energy efficient. If activated the energy saving function will reduce the hot water temperature. The energy saving function can be programmed via the menu and it can range from 30 minutes to 240 minutes.

When the energy saving is activated it stops boiling the water to a temperature of 90 degrees, and maintains a water temperature of 60 degrees thus saving on electrical power. For total energy efficiency the T6 can be power downed manually and the wake-up mode can be programmed to activate the T6 so it is at the required temperature when you need it.
